Many women may have symptoms for months or years which go undiagnosed and untreated. General awareness of gynaecological conditions is now helping women get treatment so that they can improve their quality of life and be less worried about increased or abnormal pelvic pain, heavy or irregular bleeding as well as numerous other symptoms.

Endometriosis is a common condition which causes pelvic pain, period pain and ovarian cysts. Diagnosis requires specialist care.

Irregular periods can occur for many reasons and it is important to have the cause discovered to reduce the risk of complications and be aware of future fertility potential if desired. Causes of infrequent periods include polycystic ovaries.

CST: the new Pap Smear

Pap smears have been replaced by an alternative test known as the CST (Cervical Screening Test). This change is good news for women. It will mean that they will have fewer tests but it will improve early detection and save lives. Read more …
